Straightness errors of mechanical components is an important parameter, that accurately measure and assess this in the production has been highly valued. The traditional measurement of straightness error can not meet the requirement of modern detection industry of large parts. Therefore, we use the laser scanning method to achieve the detection of parts'straightness. First, scan the entire part with the mechanical scanning device, and then extract the evaluation points, at last evaluate line according to national standard method of evaluation. This measurement method has the benefits of high accuracy, high speed, post-evaluation automation process.The main works of this paper are as following:1. Proposing the method of measuring straightness errors of drill pipe based on two-dimensional laser scanning sensor.2. Building Straightness measurement device, including:two-dimensional laser sensor, scanning system, data processing system.3. Studying evaluation of straight line error algorithms. Writing corresponding algorithm programs according to nation standards, which is preparing for later evaluation.4. Calibration of the measuring system. Building mathematical model, studying high precision calibration methods.5. Collecting image data. Processing the image data. Restoring the height and depth of the measured object information. Extraction evaluation points, and evaluating straightness. And then giving the straightness error, which is less than 0.3mm.
