Since the polymer materials appear, its flammability has been an inevitable criticism in the using process, and the material may release a lot of smoke and toxic gases that can cause incalculable consequences. But because of the superior performance of polymer materials, people have to improve the flame resistance from taking the way whatever they could while using a large number of polymer materials, such as adding filler to the material, changing the composition and structure of materials and adding flame retardant. Come to today, adding flame retardant has a better flame retardant effect than other ways, and has been the first choice to improve the flame resistance of polymer materials. However, the traditional fire retardant has inherent disadvantages, such as low efficiency and narrow applied range of Inorganic flame retardant agent aluminum and magnesium, water absorption and dispersion of Inorganic phosphorus flame retardant and the pollution of halogenated flame retardants, these shortcomings have become unpreventable shackles for the development and application of these flame retardants. Therefore, there have a very important meaning and good application prospects to searching an flame retardant that is environmental friendly and effective for polymer materials. At the same time, because most types of flame retardant have intrinsic drawbacks, the modification of flame retardants also has attracted attention, such as microencapsulation, superfine treatment and surface treatment, and has get great achievements. Among these ways, microencapsulation takes a better effect to improve the water-soluble, corrosivity and thermostability. Therefore this paper will focus on synthesis of Dimethyl methyl phosphonate (DMMP), and its flame retardancy of FRP composite materials, base on this, DMMP is microencapsulated to improve water-soluble, corrosivity and thermostability.In the present study, a new type of environmentally friendly and efficient phosphorus flame retardants dimethyl methyl phosphonate was synthesized, the synthesis conditions such as temperature, time and catalyst dosage were in-depth investigated, and the synthesized production proved true by IR, NMR and thermal analysis. While the DMMP flame retardant performances were studied through mechanical properties and flame retardant properties and changes in the amount of smoke of DMMP/FRP system. In addition, to improve the water-soluble, volatile, corrosive and other characteristic, DMMP was wrapped in the acetal which was obtained from condensation of polyvinyl alcohol and glutaraldehyde in the W/O/W three-phase system. The microencapsulation was characterized by many ways, and the amount of reactant was also discussed on the microencapsulation reaction.
