In this paper, the performance of pure boron, pure vanadium and pure zirconium wered reviewed. As well as the preparation and recent development of them. The effects of different processes of aluminothermic reaction on purity of the materials. The main conclusions are given in the following.1. In the preparation of pure boron by aluminothermic reaction, the addition of potassium chlorate can improve the content of boron in pure boron, The content of boron was 36.36 % when the addition of potassium chlorate is 10wt.% , The content of boron was 94.38 % when the addition of potassium chlorate is 25 wt.%. With the content of potassium chlorate increasing, content of boron increased. When potassium chlorate added more than 15 wt.%, the increasing of boron concent slowed down. In the case of potassium chlorate with 20 wt.% addition and the aluminum less 2 wt.%, the content of boron is highest ,which is 95.08%. the content of aluminum is lowest, which is 4.92%. In the case of potassium chlorate with 20 wt.% addition and the aluminum content of 2 wt.% less, the pure boron had the best purity and cost is the lowest.2. In the preparation of pure vanadium by aluminothermic reaction, when the aluminum content is less 5 wt.% in reactant, in the purity of vanadium is highest, which is 98.45%. when the aluminum content of 15 wt.% more in reactant, the content of vanadium is lowest, which is 87.17%. When the aluminum content is less 5 wt.% in reactant, in the content of vanadium is lowest, which is 1.55%. when the aluminum content is more 15% in reactant, in the content of aluminum is highest, which is 12.83%. When the aluminum content of 15 wt.% more in reactant, the recovery rate of vanadium is the highest, which is 92.4%. when the aluminum content of 5 wt.% less in reactant, the recovery rate of vanadium is lowest, the minimum value is 74.1%. With the content of aluminum in reactant increasing, he recovery rate of vanadium increased. When the aluminum content of 5 wt.% less in reactant, the hardness of vanadium is lowest.When the aluminum content of 15 wt.% more in reactant, the brinell hardness of vanadium is highest. With the content of aluminum in reactant increasing, the brinell hardness of vanadium increased. In the case of aluminum content is less 5 wt.% in reactant, the pure vanadium had a high vanadium content and the recovery rate is high. 3. In the case of potassium chlorate with 20 wt.% addition, when the aluminum content is less 5 wt.% in reactant, the content of zirconium is highest, the maximum value is 58.88%. when the aluminum content is more 10% in reactant, the content of vanadium is lowest, which is 51.21%. With the content of aluminum in reactant increasing, the content of zirconium increased. When the aluminum content is less 10 wt.% in reactant, in the content of aluminum in zirconium is lowest, which is 39.33%. when the aluminum content of 10 wt.% more in reactant, the content of aluminum in zirconium is highest, which is 43.94%. When the aluminum content is more 5 wt.% in reactant, The content of oxygen is highest, whicn is 5.99%. when the aluminum content of 5 wt.% less in reactant, the content of oxygen is lowest, which is 0.52%. When the aluminum content is more 10 wt.% in reactant, the recovery rate of vanadium is highest, which is 25.3%. when the aluminum content is less 10 wt.% in reactant, the recovery rate of vanadium is lowest, which is 22.4%. With the content of aluminum in reactant increasing, the recovery rate of vanadium increased. In the experiment, the recovery rate of zirconium is low , there is a room for the improvement process.
