At present, the major manufacturers of the magnesium smelt magnesium through the method of Pidgeon, the reduction jar can be the most important equipment units in the Pidgeon process.During the manufacturering of the reduction jar,which hemispherical head and the tank are made by hand for the restriction of the thick wall and the tiny outer diameter(OD),which induces the low production,high labor intensity and the high rate of rejects,what is worse is that the weld quality can't fit the need of requirements.Submerged arc welding has high production efficiency, labor intensity, weld quality and reliable characteristic.This subject's innovation lies in thick wall and small diameter stainless steel ring welds by submerged arc welding, submerged arc welding techonology test is maked for ZG30Cr24Ni7SiN reduction jar's tank and head,through analysis of the chemical composition, microstruction, mechanical properties and high temperature corrosion properties,and compare with manual arc welding, the best parameters of submerged arc welding is formulated .Test results of welded joints'mechanical properties showed that:â‘ The welded joints'mechanical properties of Submerged arc welding is superior to manual arc welding's;â‘¡The mechanical properties of SAW's joint with small specification parameters is better than SAW's with large parameters;â‘¢The mechanical properties of welding joints are sharp declined under high temperature environment.Test results of welded joints'high temperature corrosion properties showed that:â‘ The welded joints'with high temperature oxidation and high temperature corrosion properties of SAW is better than manual arc welding's;â‘¡The high temperature oxidation and high temperature corrosion properties of SAW's joint with small specification parameters is better than SAW's with large parameters;â‘¢The high temperature corrosion properties of welded joint in fusion zone is less than weld and base metal,which speed up the corrosion properties of the weld and base metal.
