Butadiene rubber as the world's second largest synthetic rubber, is widely produced in China. Butadiene rubber plant has been running for many years. So there is performance degradation for the plant. Comprehensive study on the control loop performance assessment and fault localization technique was conducted from the angle of the plant's operation and system data analysis. First, the thesis summarize the production process of butadiene rubber plant, the main units and control components in the plant. The thesis also describes how to operate the plant including emergency response. Then the thesis describes the technological improvement and control system of the plant. With support of the Matrikon CPM & PI Datalink software in the DCS system of the plant, the data for performance evaluation and failure location was got successfully. Evaluation of control loop uses the Harris index which based on MVC. When it comes to location of fluctuation resource, there are two main steps. First, the density analysis of power spectrum and the independent source analysis of power spectrum were used to conduct the detection and identification of fluctuation. Second, Engle-Granger causality analysis was used to perform fault source location. Related theory and analytical models are given in the thesis. Then the performance of the butadiene rubber plant was fully evaluated. And fault source localization analysis was also performed. At the end of the thesis we get the butadiene rubber plant's controller performance evaluation results, unit oscillation conditions and analysis of failure fluctuation transfer path. The research results enable enterprises to quickly evaluate the control loop performance, locate the fault causes, guide the repair and maintenance activities, optimize performance of the plant.
