Cavity instability in metal mine not only affect the safety in normal production of mine, but also makes the recovery of mineral resources inconvenient. Thus, to analyze the cavity instability and to grasp the instability modes of cavity and related information accurately provide a foundational base to formulate particular schemes. It is of great practical importance to analyze cavity instability.In view of the specific engineering conditions of cavity instability in Dongguashan Copper Mine, this paper, by the comprehensive application of such methods as spot detection, visual modeling, and numerical simulation, on basis of cavity precision detection, with the help of mine modeling software Surpac, numerical analysis software Flac3D, and other digital tools, analyzes and studies the cavity instability in Dongguashan Copper Mine closely combined with the research project—Study of Laser Monitoring Technology of Cavities in Dongguashan Copper Mine. The main content of this paper are as follows:(1) In view of the specific engineering conditions of the cavity in Dongguashan Copper Mine, the visualization of the cavity instability information can be realized through the cavity instability information visualization and analytic methods. At the same time, the impact of instability collapse in the cavity on surrounding mines is analyzed, which provides technical support for learning accurately about the conditions of cavity and carrying out safety design in surrounding mines.(2) Flac3D numerical software is used to carry out instability numerical analysis of the cavity, respectively in static and dynamic conditions. And the numerical results were verified by the measured results. Based on the above findings, the cavity instability models were established, which provides technical support for cavity safety assessment and management.(3) Based on the analysis of uncertainties of rock mass mechanical parameters, comprehensively using Flac3D and the Response Surface Methodology (RSM), the study of the formation of Flac3D-RSM-based cavity instability probability calculation methods are carried out. And the calculation result is verified by comparing with the measured result. It provides a new way for mine to analyze the cavity instability.(4) In view of the engineering practice of the old section of roadway damage caused by cavity instability in Dongguashan Copper Mine, using cavity three-dimensional visualization technology, CMS, Surpac, CAD and other digital tools to construct the three-dimensional solid models of cavity and roadway. The integrated information of roadway failure is obtained. The relevant security visual analyses are conducted.This paper combines engineering practice closely, comprehensively use the means of cavity sophisticated detection technology,3D modeling technology and numerical analysis tool, the study of cavity instability analysis and monitoring verification are carried out. The research results have important practical significance for mine on cavity disaster prediction and control, and safe, efficient exploitation resources.
