With the rapid development of composite materials recent years, their applications are wider than before. The composite materials have good performance and their structure can be designed, widely used in aerospace, mechanical power, transport, power electronics, military and instrumentation industry and other fields. With the continuous development of composite materials industry, the testing methods on them are also been improved. Advanced nondestructive testing methods will not damage the structure and properties of the material itself during the detection. In particular, ultrasonic testing has been applied to test composite materials. However, due to its characteristics of composite materials, there are more restrictions on the ultrasonic testing of composite materials than other materials, also technical difficulties. Therefore, doing a research about the application of ultrasonic testing on composite components is extremely important.This paper introduces the non-destructive testing, ultrasonic testing on composite materials'research and application status, the key points and difficulties facing to ultrasonic testing applications on composite materials. Artificially produce flat bottom holes with different depths and sizes, triangular grooves that their surface with different angles, test them by ultrasonic testing equipment and get the ultrasound reflected signal from testing, gain the influence factors and basic rules of ultrasonic testing on composite materials about different sizes, depths, and shapes that change the reflected signal. Accord to these basic rules and results we can make qualitative and quantitative determination in the actual production about composite material defects.The results show that:ultrasonic detection tested in the composite materials has an irreplaceable role in achieving the ultrasonic testing of composite materials must do the following:choosing the right ultrasonic parameters, reducing the influence factors and eliminating interference signals, obtaining the correct defect information. Defect information is obtained by the following rules:By getting the sound range, you can get the depth of defect. The signal of larger defect is more obvious, too small defect may not be detected. The more flat surface of defect has more obvious signals. Where the signal is reduced to its half height, there will be the defect edge region. Ultrasonic testing can't be applied on some materials that has certain structure.
