Supported nano-gold catalysts have a wide range of applications in low-temperature CO oxidation, air purification, fuel cells, electrochemical biosensors, etc. As a new type of catalytic material, its deactivation has become the main obstacles to its practical application. Therefore, it is important to study its deactivation, to research the reason of deactivation and to explore the best method to regenerate nano-gold catalyst. In this work, the feasibility of regeneration of nano-gold catalyst by non-thermal plasma was investigated preliminarily. The influence of input power and N2 concent in discharge gas to the regeneration performance of deactivated nano-gold catalyst was investigated. At last, the gas product in discharge and the species on the catalyst produced in the process of plasma treatment were analyzed by mass spectrometry and fourier transform infrared spectrometer. It shows that when the input power is 15-25 W, the activity of Au/CeO2 could be regenerated to a relatively high level by O2 plasma. However, the activity of Au/TiO2 catalyst can not only be regenerated, but also become worse by using N2+O2 plasma treatment. When 10%N2 was added in plasma, the conversion of CO over Au/TiO2 catalyst becomes the lowest. For 10 minutes, CO conversion decreased from 100% to 14%. Mass spectrometry and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer analysis shows that there are large amounts of nitrogen oxides (such as NO2 and N2O5) generated in N2+O2 plasma. These nitrogen oxides could interact with the catalyst surface to form nitrate-like species. These nitrate-like species might be responsible for the rapid deactivation of catalyst. However, this kind of deactivation is reversible, it can be regenerated by heating.
