The photocatalysis is an advanced oxidation process for the mineralization of various environmental organic pollutants in gas and liquid phases. TiO2 is one of the most widely used photocatalyst because of its good activity, chemical stability, commercial availabilityand inexpensiveness. However, separation of photocatalyst from the reaction media is difficult.Activated carbon fiber (ACF), a novel filamentous activated carbon with high BET surface area and uniform pore structure and can be prepared inthe form of felt or cloth.In this thesis, TiO2 Photocatalyst Loaded on Activated Carbon Fibers (TiO2/ACF) was prepared by coupling method and sol-gel method. To prepare highly active TiO2 sol, some major factors on gel time and photo-catalytic activity of TiO2 gel were researched. When TiO2 photo-catalyst loaded on activated carbon fibers (TiO2/ACF) was prepared by coupling method, the relationship between the addition amount of P25, epoxide resin and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and P25 loading were investigated. The TiO2 photocatalyst loaded on activated carbon fibers (TiO2/ACF) were characterized by X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectrometer and SEM. the photocatalytic activities of the photo-catalysts were evaluated via the photo-catalytic degradion of methyl blue under UV-light irradiation. The results show that:(1) When the TiO2/ACF photocatalysts were prepared by sol-el method, the results show that the optimum ratio of TiO2 sol is Ti(OC4H9)4/C2H5OH/H2O/CH3COOH (molar ratio) =1:22:3:4 and the better aging time is 4h. The best calcined temperature is 500℃.(2) When the TiO2/ACF photocatalysts were prepared by coupling method and the CMC was used as coupling agent, the optimum liquid mixture ratio is obtained as follow:3.0g of P25 per 100ml of H2O,0.2g of CMC per 100ml of H2O.(3) When the TiO2/ACF photocatalysts were prepared by coupling method and the epoxide resin was used as the coupling agent, the optimum liquid mixture ratio is obtained as follow:3.0g of P25 per 100ml of acetone,0.2g of CMC per 100ml of acetone.(4) The results showed that lower toluene concentration, lower toluene gas flow rate and higher light intensity were good for the photocatalytic degradation of toluene on TiO2/ACF photocatalyst.
