| The May 12th Wenchuan earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale and with a depth of 19 km,occurred at Wenchuan county,80 km northwest of Chengdu city,the capital of Sichuan province of China.The great earthquake triggered various and a series of secondary mountain hazards,which affected economy and society development in both national and regional scales. In the process of reconstruction,some huge mud flow disasters destroyed newly-built infrastructures in hazards-attacked areas like Qingping township of Mianzhu city.Because secondary mountain hazards can cause strong lagged effects on the economy development, influences on sustainable development of regional economy should be analyzed before a lot of capital and social resources invested into the reconstruction. Therefore,the study of economic and social impacts caused by secondary mountain hazards is of great significance in theory and practice study.In a case study of Qingping township,this dissertation firstly analyzed field survey data on landslides,mud flow and barrier lakes and then put forward countermeasures and suggestions to reduce regional influence on economy and society imposed by secondary mountain hazards,by concerning the following three main aspects:secondary mountain hazards theory, regional development background, social and economic factors.The dissertation is divided into three parts. The first part investigated the basis and premise of post-disaster reconstruction of hazards-attacked areas through concepts and common characteristics of secondary mountain hazards. The second part discussed the challenges facing hazards-stricken areas through these following aspects:Wenchuan Earthquake background, economic and social conditions of Qingping township. The last part investigated the influence of secondary mountain hazards on hazards-attacked areas through direct and indirect aspects on economy and society, and then put forward corresponding countermeasures. The thesis chose several typical themes which can represent economic development and social life,such as losses of lives and property, relocation of reconstruction,renovation of tourism resource, psychological assistance, warning defense system, planning of industrial development.The results of the study indicated that:secondary mountain hazards triggered also direct and indirect impacts on economic and social development of Qingping township.On one hand, direct impacts are as follwings:They caused great casualties and property damage,forcing villagers to change their familiar inhabitant, and destroyed industry and tourism resources. On the other hand, they endangered people's mental health, inspecting secondary mountain hazards warning system,and adjusted industrial development plans of Qingping township.
