Phenolic resin foam has excellent heat insulation, sound insulation, fire-retardant properties, small shrinkage of low temperature, and is widely used in office buildings, shopping malls, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, high clean shop, subway and other places. The applications of phenolic resin foam can be extended to the direction of exterior insulation through modifying to improve its toughness.So far. the phenolic resin foam on the market still has the problem of crisp, dregs and high cost, which remains the key technical issues and difficulties. In this paper, wet synthetic nylon-red mud double modified phenolic resin foam was proposed. Nylon was used to improve its tensile strength and the dregs. Red mud was used to improve resistance to stress and reduces costs. In the synthesis process, a synthesis of nylon, red mud toughened phenolic resin foam was formed through the discussion of prepolymer resin formulations, synthesis, and the foaming process of formulation.Nylon-6 selected modified to phenolic resin. First with acid to nylon-6 hydroxymethylation to Ba(OH)2·8H2O, MgO for the composite catalyst, phenol, formaldehyde, synthetic hydroxymethylation Nylon-6 modified phenolic resin, by thermal gravimetric analysis, as the temperature rises and nylon-6 modified phenolic resin weight loss less than that of pure phenolic resin, 600℃, the phenolic resin was 80.57% mass loss, The modified phenolic resin, nylon-6 the mass loss rate was 44.37%. With the addition of nylon 6 increases, the reactivity of resin decreased the expansion ratio decreased. Nylon 6 addition is 3%, moderate activity of resins, molding time from rising moderate fat, smooth uniform foam, the curing time is moderate, suitable for continuous production of phenolic foam wet, and can be verified through pilot production. Pilot production of foam tensile strength values increased by the non-modified 86KPa to 150KPa, a marked improvement in toughness; the oxygen index fell 37% from the unmodified to 32%, fire resistance decreased. Bayer red mud (iron red mud) and sintering red mud (calcium red mud) composition and a variety of red mud on the performance of phenolic foam, the study found, the apparent density of about 80 kg/m3 , the amount of calcium the addition of red mud is 4%, the modified phenolic formaldehyde foam than ordinary oxygen index, thermal conductivity, impact strength, pull strength, compressive strength increased by 5%, -24.79%, 41.38% , 67.14%, 68.94%; iron content of red mud addition of 6%, the performance increased by 3%, -19.14%, 55.56%, 77.40%, 90.32%.Use aluminum acetate, KH550 silane coupling agent, A160 silane coupling agent on the surface functionalization of red mud, the surface features of the iron red mud, calcium, and phenolic resin blend of red mud foam, the results show that: aluminum coupling the quality of red mud for the Ca 3.0%, iron 3.0% of the quality of red mud, and the apparent density of about 70 kg/m3, the calcium modified phenolic foam of red mud and iron red mud modified phenolic foam phenolic oxygen than ordinary index, thermal conductivity, impact strength, pull strength, compressive strength increased by 3%, -12.53%, 91.30%, 93.13%, 83.62%, 8%, -17.14%, 134.78%, 105.47%, 102.79%; KH550 silane coupling of calcium 1.5% of red mud, iron 2.0% of the quality of red mud, and the apparent density of about 70 kg/m3, the calcium modified phenolic foam of red mud and iron red mud modified phenolic phenolic foam of the more general oxygen index, thermal conductivity, impact strength, pull strength, compressive strength increased by 6%, -12.79%, 134.78%, 82.40%, 114.59%, 8%, -25.83%, 169.57%, 114.59%, 109.81% ; A160 silane coupling agent for the calcium mass of red mud 2.0%, and the apparent density of about 70 kg/m3, the calcium modified phenolic foam of red mud and iron red mud modified phenolic formaldehyde foam than ordinary oxygen index, thermal conductivity , impact strength, pull strength, compressive strength increased by 8%, -21.48%, 204.35%, 114.59%, 109.53%, 9%, -19.69%, 256.52%, 125.32%, 119.84%. Use A160 silane coupling agent, iron red mud with phenolic resin composite foam was the best.Nylon-6 in the red mud modified phenolic resin and phenolic foam composite was synthesized on the basis of red mud composite nylon-6 phenolic foam of the red mud of nylon-6 phenolic foam plastic mechanical properties and separated Thermal performance of, the results show that the best ingredients in the same situation than the density, iron red mud modified phenolic foam composite nylon -6 than that of pure phenolic foam impact resistance, anti-pullout resistance, compression was increased by 226.08% , 135.24%, 127.2%, 20.2% improved insulation.In summary, Nylon-6 modified phenolic foam to improve the tensile strength of phenolic resin, the dregs of; red mud composite phenolic foam to improve the pressure resistance of phenolic foam, flame resistance, reducing the phenolic foam costs; red mud composite nylon-6 achieve both advantages of modified phenolic foam, foam materials, tensile, compression, combustion resistance, overall performance is superior, effectively improved the toughness of phenolic resin foam of the shortcomings of poor.
