This dissertation deals with the development of a commercial process for the synthesis of tallow dipropylene triamine (TDPTA),which has been widely used as filming, emulsifing, lubrication, corrosion inhibitors, asphalt emulsifier, catalyst for epoxies, and pigment intermediate etc. The process for synthesis of TDPTA consists of two steps:formation of cyano tallow propylene diamine and conversion of the cyano tallow propylene diamine to tallow dipropylene triamine by Ni-catalyzed hydrogenation. A stable producing process of tallow dipropylene triamine in commercial scale has been successfully developed after laboratory experiment and pilot scale optimizing.Cyano tallow propylene diamine was prepared by reaction of tallow propylene diamine with acrylonitrile catalyzed by water. The reaction parameters such as substrate ratio, catalyst loading, temperature and reaction time was optimized in laboratory and tested in pilot scale and a stable commericial producing process of cyano tallow propylene diamine was achieved giving the intermediate in 95.2% yield.Tallow dipropylene triamine was synthesized from cyano tallow propylene diamine by Ni-catalyzed hydrogenation in the presence of inhibitor of composite alkali. A stable commericial producing process of tallow dipropylene triamine was obtained by screening inhibitor and catalysts as well as optimizing temperature, hydrogen pressure and reaction time, which afforded the target product tallow dipropylene triamine in 94.5% yield.
