The formation of C-O bond play an important role in organic synthesis, and also have vast prospect in pharmaceutical synthesis. Firstly, advances in recent of arylboric acid as substrates and the synthetic methods of unsymmetrical diaryl ether were reviewed. The thesis developing synthesis of unsymmetrical diaryl ether via three reactions are as follows: (1) In the presence of RhCl(PPh3)3, unsymmetrical diaryl ether were achieved from coupling reaction of arylboronic acid with nitroarenes. From a deuterium labeling experiment, the oxygen atom is derived from ambient water; (2) Copper(II) acetate-catalyzed synthesis of unsymmetrical diaryl ether were obtained from coupling reactions of arylboronic acid with nitroarenes; (3) The synthesis of unsymmetrical diaryl ether by SNAr reaction of phenol with nitroarens. The above approaches for the synthesis of unsymmetrical diaryl ethers are developed, which enjoy the advantages of mild reaction conditions, commercially available materials, simple operation.
