With the higher demand to the flexibility and the production efficiency of the continuous casting,Baogang steel begin to produce the continuously caster slab of different grade on the wide plate caster ,in order to reduce the working times of the auxiliary production equipment and improve the work rate of the pure casting steel. According to the similarity theory, a 1:3 scale water model include steel ladle, tundish and mould is established. Experiments were conducted under the condition thatFr is equal and Re is always in the second area. This paper studies the steel grade transition in continuous casting process, and the internal flow control device of the tundish is optimized.By optimizing the structure of the tundish, it is finded the optimum condition is, the depth of weir is 100mm , the height of dam is 105mm , the ditance between weir and dam is 200mm and the distance between dam and long nozzle is 195mm. Compared with no inhibitors device , the average resident time increased 14%, the peak time increased 47%, the volume fraction of dead zone decreased 30%, the volume fraction of piston zone increased 58%, the volume fraction of mix zone increased 17%.Through the research on the mixed steel behavior on the unsteady condition casting, and throug the water model experiment, the precise starting point and length of the intermixing slab can be calculated. Using the orthogonal experiment analysis with the weight of residual molten steel in tundish, drawing speed and liquid surface height, the following conclusions show: the weight of residual molten steel in tundish has significant effect on the length of intermixing slab than drawing speed. In experimental conditions, when the weight of residual molten steel in tundish is 8.5 t, drawing speed is 7.8 m/min, the length of the intermixing slab is 3.03m.Water model experiment of steel grade transition in continuous casting process, which provides basis for the length of the intermixing slab in theoty. The research has certain directive significance to the practical production.
