Steel are the basic material in country's economical construction and each element playsan important role. In order to meet the command of the practice, it is necessary to guaranteeits quality, so the elemental analyzing is essential. So far, there are many equipments andmethods, but some of them are to long too measure an element, some are difficult toanalyze the light elements, and others need to be pretreated, which are restrained the largescale, high speed and continuous development of the metallurgical industry.A brief comment is given about the equipments in use at beginning and then the newmethod of Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy technology (LIBS) is introduced, whichis fit for high speed, multi-element analysis of steel analysis. The main developing history, basic theory and advantages of LIBS have been introducedin the research of metallurgical industry as well as the optical platforms and quantitativeanalyzing models, which are used in measure to make sure the good result. It should be paid more attention to the experimental parameter which is a critical factorduring the process of steel analysis. In order to get the proper parameters, a big deal ofexperiments must be made with laser energy, lens to sample distance, delay time and so on.After getting the better parameters, quantitative analysis are carried into practice, suchas Mn, Cr and Si by using 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel and 40Cr steel. The internalstandard method and multi-element calibration methods are taken into calibration toimprove the precision, weaken the poor effect of environmental fluctuation and the matrixof themselves.Further more, the different crystal texture plasma characteristics are studied by T8 steelwith relational heat treatment technology. The spectrum date shows that the plasmacharacteristics are absolutely different among the three crystal textures, especially adoptinglarge energy and proper delay time, which would be considered as a symbol to distinctdifferent crystal textures and"High-temperature Failure of Dissimilar"in Steel. Finally, a summarization is made about the whole chapters and the prospect is given inon-line monitoring of LIBS in the future.
