It is easy to produce saw-tooth chips in the high-speed maching super hard aluminum alloy, consequently affecting the workpiece surface quality. Being aimed at the high-speed milling the super hard aluminum alloy 7A04, it is help to further improve the manufacturing quality by studying the formation mechanism and the impact of the saw-tooth chipsThe cutting test is done which is aimed at the super hard aluminum alloy 7A04. It analyses the macrophology and the microphology of the chips of the different cutting conditions. With the cutting speed increasing, flow chips converts saw-tooth chips. It analyses the deformation of the flow chips and the zigzag level of the saw-tooth chips. Cutting parameters on morphology are investigated.By microscopic measurement, analyzing the law of the adiabatic band with cutting conditions is to reveal the formation mechanism of saw-tooth chips. With the cutting speed increasing, the deformed shear band converts the thransformed shear band. The shape, width, spacing and internal hardness of adiabatic band vary with cutting parameters.Using the finite element software establishes the cutting model of super-hard alloy 7A04 in high-speed cutting condition. By analyzing the equivalent stress, equivalent strain, equivalent strain rate, temperature and the main cutting force of the saw-tooth chips which are under different cutting parameters, it gets the law of the saw chips under different cutting parameters and tool parameters.To find the relationship between the cutting parameters, chip shape and the surface roughness, control of saw-tooth chip formation, and get good surface quality, then the orthogonal cutting test is designed. According to the results, it gains experience formula on high-speed milling of super-hard alloy 7A04 by using the least square method. By using of the formula and the conditions of saw-tooth chips formation, it chooses reasonable cutting parameters to avoid the generation of saw-tooth chips for obtaining high surface quality.
