The rocky desertification distributed in Mountain regions of southwest China has caused the degeneration of ecological environment and poverty of people's living. The control pattern of karst rocky desertification is studied to promote a series of effective and available approaches for controlling the rocky desertification form the current control patterns. We aimed at some typical ecological problems that occur in rocky desertification regions such as rocky desertification of thick bone soil which is widely distributed but few focused, the covering soil and water loss, and water logging effected by interlayer of clastic rock. Then we chose the Duokan and Tuanle small watershed as the study objects to analyzed the mechanism and control methods of the above problems and summarized the control patterns as the demonstration.First, we summarized the environmental features of the small watershed, the rocky desertification problems and relevant control patterns distributed in varied karst geomorphology of Guangxi. Then we chose the Tuanle small watershed to constructed a three-dimension conceptual model by applying the soil feasibility based on gray correlation analysis, the soil analysis based on Arcmap and pre-assessment of ecological service value.Second, we designed and practices the control patterns of karst rocky desertification. Aimed at the practical problems of Tuanle small watershed, we mainly chose forest conservation, reforestation, forage grass planting and so on as preliminary designed projects. According to the characteristics of geography, with the emphasize on the means of GIS, we arranged the vary patterns.Finally, based on the principle of WRS system, we explored constructing methods and procedures of control patterns of karst rocky desertification. Summary from different geographical scale to demonstrate different levels of desertification governance point of view, that at the regional, provincial, county, small watershed, the project area within five different scales were to conclude the landscape mode, resource development model, the ecological industry model, the project model and household-based business model. Then we selected the typical small watershed as the object of control and demonstration and analyzed how the thick bone soil effects the rocky desertification, the covering soil and water loss, and water logging effected by interlayer of clastic rock. Afterward we optimized combine these control patterns that according to the problems and constructed demonstration area so as to apply in demonstration and extension.This paper presents some innovative ideas, such as summarized different levels of desertification governance model from different geographical scales, classification of Guangxi karst watersheds, select a typical small watershed and established a conceptual model , sinking layout control project proposed shoud based on relationship between the soure of both furface and subsurface karst systems of small watershed, and watershed management units should focus on ecological governance of non-soluble rock sources, has theoretical value and practical significance.
