As the national economy develops rapidly, the need for oil products is also increasing day by day. And the oil storage tank is also becoming larger and larger. Meanwhile, the electrostatic accidents of the tank also become more and more serious. In fact, the electrostatic safety problem of the oil storage tank is a prominent problem of the modern safety technology in the oil industry. So a deep understanding of the electrostatic law and a scientific assessment of the potential electrostatic safety hazard will be of great importance to the scientific prevention of electrostatic accidents of the tank.According to the similarity theory and the field condition, the similarity criterions of the electrostatic law of the oil storage tank were deduced, the physical modeling experimental system was established. The physical modeling experiment and the electrostatic safety assessment research were carried out. Five results were obtained as follow. (1) The generated mechanism of the electrostatic charge, the electrostatic discharge pattern and the serious damage of static electricity in oil storage tank were researched, respectively, basing on electrostatic theory. (2) A group of similarity criterions of electrostatic law of oil storage tank were deduced using dimensional method, and four main similarity criterions were identified. (3) According to the similarity theory and the conditions of laboratory and field, the physical modeling experimental system that simulated the electrostatic law of oil storage tank was designed and established. (4) The effect of the conductivity on the law of electrostatic producing and dispersing in oil storage tank was researched using physical modeling experiment. The electrostatic law in laboratory was summarized. And the electrostatic law in field was proportionally simulated according to the law in laboratory. (5) Based on the fault tree theory, the fault tree model of the electrostatic safety assessment of the oil storage tank was identified. The direct and potential reasons concerning the safety problem of the static electricity were figured out, and at the same time seven schemes to prevent the electrostatic accidents of the oil storage were put out.The result of this thesis has further deepens the understanding of the law of producing, accumulating and leaking law of static electricity in the oil storage tank, and provides scientific suggestion to assess the electrical static safety of oil tank and thus provides scientific evidence for solution the electrostatic accidents.
