With the high speed development of global economy technology and the changes of customer needs and market environment, economic competition becomes increasingly fierce mainly in manufacturing technology between each country. NC machining technology which is the basis of modern manufacture technology is an important branch of advanced manufacturing technology. So governments are very attention on the study of NC machining technology. In order to promote the development for direction of intelligent and networking, our country need more study and research of NC machining technology. Especially, the domestic development level is far away from other advanced countries.This paper discussed application and limitations of the traditional numerical control standard and advantage and research situation of STEP-NC standard. Through analysis of relevant entity concept, the data model and document structure of STEP-NC file, and processing operation parameters in UG CAM model, put forward the information mapping relationship of path set parameters, machine function, cutting tool and geometry parameters.The process route optimization is based on machining features, processing method and machining operations. Through the research of working step sequencing problem based on genetic algorithm, to fulfill optimization of system function of processing operation order.Using the secondary development tools of UG/OPEN MenuScript and UG/OPEN API in UG CAM model, the development of the prototype system has been implemented. The system put STEP-NC file information into G code.Finally, verified rationality of the prototype system and correctness and advanced of STEP - NC standard program through an example. For more comprehension, application and research of STEP - NC standard provides significance.
