Since prehistoric human decorated their bodies with colorful earth, clothing has been a significant necessity of life. The fashion in history has never been such glamorous, flexible like today. In three decades after Reform and Opening up, earthshaking changes have taken place in various aspects in China. And the textile and garment industry has been also moving forward in leaps and bounds. The changes of clothing culture in thirty years represent the process of modernization of Chinese clothing concept. And the research of the change will make Chinese clothing to go towards the world actively.The issue, that bases on Chinese ladies'fashion style after Reform and Opening up, deeply explores characteristics and social backgrounds of every mainstream style, studies on the reason of the changes of ladies'mainstream couture style in China and reveals the regularities of change from the perspectives of sociology, political economy, psychology, consumer science and so on. It contains longitudinal study and horizontal study on Chinese ladies'couture style. The longitudinal study is the process to explore the evolution of clothing in order to find out the basic pattern and evolution path of the popular style. The horizontal study which is the discussion of the reason of ladies'couture style changes, explores ladies'couture style, as a cultural factor, how to be subject to factors such as politics, economics, cultural communication, mass media and the value of people's thinking, social psychology and so on.This paper indicates that the dominant ladies'couture style in China after reform and opening up are: exaggerated style, masculine style, OL style, minimalism style, unisex style, sexy style, leisure style, Chinese style, romantic style, vintage style and mix-match style. The progress of rising and evolution of these styles fully shows the changes of Chinese ladies'clothing style, from total westernization in the beginning of the Reform and Opening up to the re-emergence of Chinese clothing and coexistence of diverse couture styles. Social factors represented by politics, economics, textile and garment industry, cultural communication, mass media and women's emotional factors, like physical liberation, thought liberation, aesthetic standard, consumption desire, imitation psychology, women evolution made far-reaching impacts on the advance of Chinese ladies'couture style. But the range, depth and persistence of influences made by different factors are not the same. Based on the research of Chinese ladies'couture style after Reform and Opening up, this article enriches the theory of Chinese fashion design history after reform and opening up, and also provides valuable experiences for the further development of fashion design education and design practice .
