The main impact of human activities on climate change is anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases. N2O is one of the greenhouse gases, its global warming potential 310 times as high as that of CO2. This work focuses on evaluation and applications of the abatement technologies of greenhouse gases N2O in industrial production.Currently, N2O abatement technology in general characteristic has influenced only on environmen, not on economy. N2O abatement in concentrated point sources has been come off in the process such as chemical production in some developed countries under public environmental protection pressure. Meanwhile, there has been little progress on N2O abatement in developing countries including China by the end of 2007. Adipic acid plant PetroChina Liaoyang Petrochemical Company, is the largest source of N2O emissions domesticly, and is the first plant which introduced catalytic decomposition technology in domestic plants.Based on the understanding of N2O abatement theory and technology in the similar foreign advanced plants, the proposals were put forward based on the research and comparison results. The technological parameters during the operating process in abatement plant were monitored and tracked after the project was completed and applied into production. The patented technologies were analyzed in detail. The impact of different operational parameters was investigated and the operation was optimized by countermeasures. In consequence, the bottleneck problem that was caused by introduced technology in similar domestic plants was resolved. The experiences accumulated will do well in deep development of China's greenhouse gases N2O abatement in adipic acid plants. The application of N2O catalytic decomposition system has achieved remarkable environmental benefits. During the first operating period from March 14th, 2008 to March 13th, 2009, the abatement of N2O emission equals 13 million ton CO2 in greenhouse effect. Furthermore, the system has also improved energy efficiency and promoted low-carbon economic growth.
