Blanking is defined as a kind of sheet metal forming technology using the mould make sheet metal produce shear deformation and separation along the certain outline, which can be divided into ordinary stamping and fine blanking. Burr was one of the most common defects in blanking process, especially common blanking. The presence of burr has a potential impact to the parts quality in processing and the finished product, so how to ensure the burr be controlled in parts processing has important influence on the service efficiency of equipment.Based on the experiment and the simulation results, the burr formation mechanism in the blanking process was studied in this paper. According to the material deformation in blanking process: elastic deformation stage, plastic deformation stage and separation stage, we understand the forming process of the burr.Starting from the burr formation mechanism, the burr produced in blanking was investigated by varying blanking clearance and cutting speed. And then, DEFOEM-2D is used to simulate the process of blanking deformation and the burr topography in order to analysis the blanking force, stress and strain under different blanking conditions. The simulation results are consistent with experimental results. So, simulating the blanking process using DEFOEM-2D software is feasible to improve the quality of shear surface of blanking pieces.By studying the formation mechanism of burr and the control method of burr, and according to the practice of the companies, this paper confirmed that the suppressing formation of burr can be realized in the actual processing.
