The delamination damage in composite interlayer has become the most important form of destruction in the design and analysis of composite laminated plate.So a growing body of studies began to focus on selecting appropriate interlaminar toughening materials to hold the layered,and improving its fracture toughness.Based on the ex-situ toughening of epoxy resin matrix composite, this paper selects three kinds of new thermoplastic structured toughening material for studing.They are commercially available glass fiber surface mat (GFSM),nylon 6(PA6) nanofibers membrane of electrostatic spinning and the mixed structure of GFSM and PA6. With epoxy resin as matrix material and basalt fiber asreinforcing material, four kinds of toughened composites is prepared via VARI process. We studied the effects of mode I interlaminar fracture toughness,mode II interlaminar fracture toughness and compression after impact properties.Summing up the optimal method of interlaminar toughening through comparing. Meanwhile knowing more about the unreaction-induced phase separation.The results show that:Intercalated materials can significantly improve the laminated toughness.According to the interlaminar fracture toughness test, composite sample adding PA6 as interlaminar material of mode I and mode II interlaminar fracture toughness increased by 20.7% and 40.2%.The Gâ… Cof composite sample adding GFSM as interlaminar material was increased 70.3%,the Gâ…¡c was increased 63.9%. The mode I and mode II interlaminar fracture toughness of adding GFSM+PA6 as interlaminar material increased 10% and 41.6%.We can see that the composite laminates plate with GFSM as toughening material has the most significant toughening effect.Finally,through the specimen cross section SEM analyses its toughening mechanism.Through the research of compression after impact properties found that:The CAI of composite sample adding PA6 as interlaminar material increasing rate was only 0.1%.The increment rate which adds GFSM+PA as interlaminar material was also 0.5%.But the CAI of composite material inserting GFSM increased at a rate of 24.5%.It further verified the impact of the glass fiber surface mat as toughening material of the composites.In summary, using GFSM or PA6 or GFSM+PA6 as the interlaminar material can greatly improve the laminated toughness.And the idea of adding two different structures together as flexibilizer has certain promote significance in future studies.
