Ink supply device is the basic unit of the metal sheet printing machine’s ink system. It plays an important role in supplying the ink. And it also greatly affects the automation and intelligence of the metal sheet printing machine, which makes it high research value. The domestic products have the defects of low accuracy and automation. And the design of ink supply device lack a systematic method. In order to solve these problems, researches have been conducted in the following areas.(1) The ink flow analysis of the ink fountain. The ink flow condition has a great impact on the performance of the ink fountain. The area of ink is constructed by the ink roller, the ink key and the side plate. The different position relationship between the ink roller and the ink key will change the shape of ink area and thereby influents the ink flow condition. So the ink flow analysis was conducted to find out the influence to the ink flow condition under different position relationships to further provide information for the structure design.(2) Structure design of the ink fountain. Three main parts are designed in this research, adjusting mechanism, supporting base and other accessories. The relationships between key opening and the movement distance of ink key under different relationships were discussed. By combining the results of ink flow analysis, the adjusting mechanism was designed. And the design of supporting base and other accessories was also solved.(3) Analysis of the ink fountain’s performance and structural optimization. On the basis of the structure design, the further analysis of the property was conducted to find out the defects of the design. First, took the rotation speed of ink roller as parameter to investigate if the change of the speed will affect the linear of the ink quantity adjusting process. Then the static and modal analysis was conducted on the ink fountain to investigate the distribution of deformation and stress. On the basis of the analysis results, the structure optimization was conducted by the software of ANSYS Workbench.(4) The control system designing. According to the characteristic of the ink fountain designed in this article, the control system is designed to make the ink key opening real-time control available.
