Metal foam, as a new sound absorption material, has been successfully applied to some fields. However, the study of this material about sound dissipation mechanisms, acoustic optimization and theoretical model is deficient in our country. With reference to these problems, the following studies are carried out in the paper. Measures the absorption coefficients of the foam by the transfer function method, analyzes the sound absorption property of the single layer foam, proposes a sound-absorbing structure, two layer foam, and analyzes the acoustic absorption behavior of this structure. The result shows that this structure can be used to optimize the sound absorption properties of metal foam. Moreover, this paper analyzes the sound propagation characteristics in metal foam, establishes a transfer matrix and obtains the absorption coefficient formula of the single layer foam and two layer foam. Verifies and amends the theoretical model by using the experimental data. The result shows that the theoretical model can preferably predict the absorption coefficients of the single layer foam and two layer foam.
