Due to the advantages of the stainless steel wire, such as high specific strength, good electromagnetic shielding, good damping capacity, better corrosion resistance and better wear resistance, it has been widely applied in automobile industry and electrocommunication and so on. Nickel is plated on stainless steel wire, which can attain uniform thickness of coating on stainless steel wire and can improve deficiency of primary stainless steel wire. So it is a perfect surface treatment method.Electroplate nickel plating of diameter 0.050 for stainless steel wire (0Cr18Ni9) was studied to design the continuous nickel electroplating process which was in accordance with industrialized process characteristic. The optimal technics conditions for continuous nickel electropating have been determined by orthogonal experiments. With micrometer measured trickness, with thermal shock test detected binding force of coating, with total wetting test of cover determined corrosion resistance, with X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) analysed phase composition and element composition, with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observed surface morphology. Thickness, binding force, corrosion resistance and tensile properties of coating were detected, so the results are as follows:(1) The continuous nickel electroplating processStainless steel wire→acetone cleaning→cool water cleaning→alkaline cleaning(60℃, NaOH solution)→hot water cleaning→cool water cleaning→acid cleaning(HNO3,11 percent, volume ratio)→cool water cleaning→nickel electroplating→cool water cleaning→desiccation→coiling→heat treatment→acceptance check.(2) Nickel electroplating solution componentNiSO4·6H2O,50 g/L, NiCl2·6H2O,15 g/L, H3BO3,33 g/L, saccharin,1.3 g/L,1,4-butynediol,0.3 g/L, sodium dodecyl sulfate,0.05g/L, (3) Process condition of nickel electroplatingElectroplating solution PH value is 4.0, temperature is 40℃, current intensity is 0.05A, time for electroplating is 15min.With the continuous nickel electroplating process ascertained in this experiment, appearance of nickel coating was good, smooth and clean.The coating structure was crystalline state+amorphous state,binding force of between coating and matrix is good. on corrosion resistance and decorative function,service performance of the stainless steel wire has been improved. and it can be applied for industrial field for its compact process flow and simple configuration.
