Impeller is an important part in modern industry.But the design and manufacture of impeller drops behind other counties. So, after the research on development of the system and correlative techniques in abroad, CAD/CAM software for integral impeller in 5-axis NC machining is exploited. The system is exploited by the exploited tool Pro/Toolkit which belongs to Pro/Engineer, and Object-Oriented program language VC++.Firstly, research on the modeling module, machining module, exploiting module in Pro/Engineer, confirm the feasibility of the plan. The integral frame is constructed. System is arranged to be consisted of four modules according to the principle of module design such as modeling, tool path generating, error analysis,post-processing, and dynamic simulating. Then programming tools are determined. Arithmetic and implements of function modules are as follows:In the modeling module, the ruled surface formed blade is constructed with the thrice B-spline interpolation technique. Data of point input is accepted and automatically constructed the model. According to that, geometry sculpt is accomplished directly.Tool path generating module is the key part of the whole system, in which the roughing stage is the highlight. The half rectangle tool-path generating algorithms are presented using equally layered strategy; meanwhile the direction of cutter axis is determined. It is also introduced in the blade finishing; the computing method of tool path planning of 5-axis flank milling NC machining is given. Furthermore, CL data transformed to NC code through post-process.Then the theory and algorithms are proved to be validity through putting the results into the practical 5-axis NC machining.From the error analysis, we can obtain the equation of machining error and the relation of error t.Corresponding t was got in the diffenent processes to obtain the cutter radius.Finally, geometry simulating of impeller machining for CL data method is put up in VERICUT software. And it also optimizes CL tool-path in VERICUT.The system turns out to be extensible and applicable, convenient and automatically. Therefore, research achievements with theoretical significance and practical value are acquired.
