With high development of the global economy, the requirement for transportation in society is continuously increased. The problem of transportation has become the primary problem in all the cities all around the world, especially in some large cities. Recently, with the development of the intelligent transportation and wireless sensor network, wireless sensor network is applied into intelligent transportation system by some scholars, and a series of research has been studied. While the technology about wireless sensor network is not mature at present, and some problems have not been solved. The research of intelligent transportation system based on wireless sensor network is still in exploration. At the current research situation which wireless sensor network is applied into intelligent transportation system, this paper introduces a system model based on wireless sensor network, and studies the application of intelligent transportation system based on the model. The main contents of the thesis are listed as followed:This paper gives a transportation model based on sensor network, and this model has four-layer architecture. The configuration of the system model is flexible and convenient, and it also has the characteristic of expansibility and loose coupled property. It can guide the scheduling for the model system according to the collection of the traffic flow, the delaying time at the crossing-road, the forecasting indicating value for traffic congestion and the integrated guideline function for the crossing-road. The introduction of the integrated guideline function makes the implement of system model creditable and guidable, and it has some research value to intelligent transportation system based on wireless sensor network.The application research of nearest neighbor query in road network is widely used. The road network is complicated and huge, and the widely-used nearest neighbor query algorithm is only applied to some special situations. When the interesting points are sparsely or densely distributed, these algorithms become inapplicable. Based on the current developments of the intelligent transportation system based on wireless sensor network and the nearest neighbor query algorithm, This paper introduces an algorithm for k nearest neighbors in road networks based on mobile agent. Comparing with the traditional algorithm based on the mode of client/server, this algorithm is not only able to adapt to the dynamic changes of the network, with the autonomy, mobility and other characteristics of mobile agent, the mobile agent can also independently execute the query at the crossing road. The experiments show that the algorithm has high query efficiency. The research of wireless sensor network which is applied into intelligent transportation system as a new technology is a current research direction. It plays an important role to ease traffic congestion, and it is also an important method to implement intelligent transportation system.
