Rock with weak plane is heterogeneity, and its strength has a significant impact on the design, stability evaluation of rock engineering. There are also great difficulties to determine mechanical parameters of rock with weak plane. Scholars in China and overseas have done many detailed studies in aspects of field test, model test and simulation tests, however, the research concerned with natural weak plane is still deficient. In this paper, acoustic properties, strength and deformation properties of complete and natural weak plane sandstone and limestone were investigated based on laboratory tests and theoretical analysis. Ultrasonic wave measurement on specimen was carried out to study the weak plane acoustic properties and the impact on acoustic parameters. Then, the uniaxial and triaxial compressive tests on sound and weak plane specimens were carried out using RMT-150B servo-controlled testing machine to study the relationship among longitudinal wave velocity, strength, and average modulus, and the relationship between specimens strength, deformation properties and confining pressure. The destruction styles of with a single weak plane were analyzed. All studies show that weak plane inclination, thickness and whether be run through or not have a significant impact on longitudinal wave velocity, average modulus and strength of specimens.
