With the development of ship power system, its capacity is much greater, and structure is much more complicate. The ship electric power system was a complex system with multiple diesel engine generator sets operating in parallel, and was a strong nonlinear system because of the various types of equipment. In the field of study of nonlinear systems, chaotic oscillation had been taken more attention as a special state in nonlinear dynamic system. The non-periodic, seemingly random or paroxysmal oscillations in ship electric power system operation were appertaining chaotic oscillation phenomenon. Chaotic oscillations endanger the safe operation of the ship power system, and may result in system instability.In view of this, the chaotic phenomena of the ship electric power system and its control method was analyzed and researched in this paper based on kinetic theory.At first, the nonlinear model of the ship power system in parallel was established for the analysis of chaotic systems according to analyze the non-linear characteristics of the ship power system, and to principle of energy drive and relation of generator sets torque and relation of electric parameters.Next, the oscillation was analyzed in ship power system under the conditions of light load, it was happened with the power transfer between two generators and a certain quantitative loads of periodic interference are affected. Melnikov method was used to analyze the system's chaotic oscillation condition with disturbance; Lyapunov exponent was also used to show the dynamical action of disturbed system. Combined with two kinds of methods to determine the dynamic behavior, and analyzed the system operation state in time-domain to comprehensive understanding ship power system in chaos.Then, a control strategy of state feedback controller based on nonlinear robust H∞control theories was proposed to inhibit the chaotic oscillation quickly in the ship power system, and the system would be operating with stability.In this paper, the chaotic system and control system was analyzed and simulated with Matlab. The simulation results revealed the existence of chaotic phenomena in ship power system, and verified the validity of the controller.
