Underwater explosion pose a serious threat to warships. It is very difficult to make theoretical analysis because of the complexity of underwater explosion process. Experimental study can bring many useful information. However, it cost a lot of resources to do experiment. With the quick development of computers, numerical method is widely applied to the analysis of underwater explosion. The attentions were mostly paid to the effect of shock wave in previous work. However, experiments and analysis in late years show that bubble pulse may play a more role in the overall damage of structures. The following work is mainly done in this paper.(1)Developments of research about the response of structures to underwater, explosion are reviewed in aspects such as academic analysis, experimental and numerical methods. Key techniques of modeling and numerical method are mastered, providing basis for the following study.(2)Results from numerical method are compared with the results in the literature. It shows the validity and veracity of the numerical method applied in this paper. Underwater explosion pressure is computed applying Geers-Hunter model. Peak pressure of shock wave with different charge weight and different explosion distance is studied. The maximum radius of bubble and the pulsation period of bubble with different charge weight and depth are investigated.(3)Response of underwater cylindrical shell in work conditions such as shock wave acting alone, shock wave and bubble pulse acting together, with different shell thickness, with different length of the shell, with different charge depth and with different explosion position. The response of box ship and tugboat in different conditions are calculated and studied. Some valuable regulations about the response of structure to underwater explosion are gotten.The research work in this paper is mainly to explore the response rule and failure mechanism of structure to underwater explosion and provide reference to the design of warships.
