UPFC is a kind of flow control device. It combines a number of flexible control methods of FACTS, which has stronger functions among the FACTS devices. With the development of semiconductor manufacturing technology and electronic design automation, UPFC control system design also is updating quickly.At first, this dissertation studys the situations and control algorithms of UPFC at home and abroad. For the problems which the current transmission system exists, this dissertation adopts the minimum switch loss PWM algorithm to design UPFC control system. Then, this dissertation researches the principle of the minimum switch loss PWM technology in detail and analyse its harmonic. By studying and mastering the relevant knowledge and development technology of FPGA and SOC, we carry out further analysis and research for the development environment,process and method about using FPGA technology to achieve UPFC.This dissertation focuses on how UPFC control system to meet the requirements that the frequency is consistent with the given frequency and amplitude and phase can be changed continuously and then design and achieve software and hardware of UPFC control system on the FPGA development board of Altera company and gives its design method and process in detail. Then the minimum switch loss PWM technology is applied to the design of UPFC control system successfully and then its harmonic theory is annlysed. According to the characteristics of the minimum switch loss PWM technology, it can save 1/3 of the switch losses in UPFC.Finally the design is verified by the simulation tool Quartus Simulator and SignalTap II and the simulation results are given. The results show that the output waveforms meet the design requirements and achieve the purpose of reducing UPFC switch losses.
