Cooling system is an important component in automobile engine, and the coolant jacket take a key pole in the heat-transfer of cooling system. At the same time, the heat-transfer ability of water-jacket have impacts on the dynamic and reliability of engines. With the development of computer and compute fluid dynamic, numerical simulation has been a significant way to research the flow and heat-transfer problem in water-jacket, this way has many advantages, such as lower designing cost, shorter computing time and so on. This paper is going to research the flow and heat-transfer of coolant-jacket on a 4-cylinder gasoline engine with numerical simulation, and is going to optimize the construction of water-jacket and the mass-flow-rate under different working condition.The following works are completed in this paper(1) Establish the 3D model of water-jacket, and make mesh of it, then descript the method of calculation and studying ways in detail.(2) Base on the simulating ways above, if the testing results similar to the simulation calculations results, it can prove the computing model right.(3) According to the analysis of the flow and heat-transfer in the water-jacket, propose a new construction for the lower heat-transfer ability,and compared with the primary one.(4) Every working condition on external characteristic test have its own heat-transfer quantity, optimize the heat-transfer ability of typical working condition according to modify the mass-flow rate. And provide theoretic basis for succeeding excellent cooling system research.
