In recent years, with the rapid development of China's automobile industry, car ownership in China has increased dramatically, cars have become important means of transport, but also give the environment a tremendous negative impact, energy shortages and environmental degradation force the auto industry to spend a lot of manpower and financial resources for technology development. The theme of development of automobile industry has been switched to safety, environmental protection and energy conservation.The intake swirl of an engine directly determines the combustion in cylinder, and the swirl has a huge impact on the engine power, economy and emissions, so improve the engine intake swirl helps to reduce the engine emissions. The reasonably well-organized combustion process is important for the development of high performance and low emission vehicles.At present, the studies on engine intake system performance focused on components of engine, such as the flow resistance characteristics of mid cooling system, the uniformity of intake manifold flow, the research on intake port swirl and charge efficiency. They are often isolated, and not a whole. Many factors affect the overall performance, and it is difficult to accurately analyze the affect of particular inlet accessories on the overall performance. This paper uses the method of experimental and simulation to explore the various engine intake accessories' influence on the engine intake swirl.The major work this paper completed are as follows:1. Build and improve the test bench, verify the repeatability of the test bench because the test bench is a new one;2. Using fixed pressure drop method, do experiments on a six-cylinder engine with five different experimental arrangements and analyze the intake accessories'(including the filter, intercooler, intake manifold) influence on the intake swirl;3. Using simulation software to simulate the experimental study, compared with the actual experimental data to verify the feasibility of computer simulation.
