Marine diesel engine is the core of the vessel. The normal operation of marine diesel engines ensures the scheduled completion and efficiency of a-trip. Any failures may result in significant economic losses and severe accidents. However, the engines often suffer from the deterioration of key rubbing pairs, such as cylinder liner-piston rings and sliding bearing, et al. Therefore, it is crucial to monitor condition of the typical tribological systems in a reliable and timely manner, which can detect potential faults in time to ensure the normal operation of the vessels.In this study, cylinder liner-piston ring is selected as the research object. Focusing on the condition identification, the experiments of different surface treatment of cylinder are carried out using an internal combustion engine simulation tester for key rubbing pairs. Machine vibration and lube oil in cylinder are also acquainted. Through the oil analysis, including filtergram and spectral analysis, the qualitative mapping relationship between cylinder of surface treatment and its running status is analyzed according to the fuselage vibration signal and the oil information. Compared with piston-cylinder performance of different operation modes, the results show that cylinder dealt with the regular concave has a certain improved vibration and lubricants, while regular groove processing cylinder against various performance improvement, and processing rules of the groove of the cylinder is not conducive to performance, slot pit alternate with piston-cylinder then is at above between them.Several typical fault operation modes have been set up, where the vibration and the oil information are collected during the running process. The vibration identification model and the oil identification model based on fuzzy C-means clustering have been established based on the corresponding experiments. This model can identify the operating mode of cylinder-piston ring according to the vibration or oil characteristics of information.The expert system is introduced to identification model. The weight that operation mode affected by each factor was identified with comprehensive identification algorithm. Combining the theory of fuzzy identification and the result of single identification model, an integrated identification model of cylinder-piston ring based on the vibration and the oil information has been established.
