Vehicle Steering System is a pivotal parts which has big influence on vehicle's control stability, active safety and comfort. Electric Power Steering System is a new vehicle power steering technology. Comparing with the traditional hydraulic steering system, EPS can save energy, improve active safety, control steering feel and benefit environment protection.It accords to the development of modern vehicle electronization and intellectualized, fitting to the vehicle development three subject:security, environmental protection and saving energy. Therefore it is very important in a practical significance in research of EPS.This paper is on the foundation of the analysis of domestic and international heritage data, the research work primarily includes:(1)The structure of electric power steering system is designed and the its operating principle and its characteristic is introduced.(2)The dynamic models of the main parts of electric power steering system are built and the assist characteristic is analyzed.(3)The characteristic of EPS is analyzed by the main evaluation targets on steering handing of electric power steering system and their expressions are also deduced, besides, the effects of main parameters on steering handing is compared and analyzed.(4)The control methods of electric power steering system are researched and the used control methods are simulated.Through research of this paper, the design of assist characteristic is completed and the dynamic modes of main parts of the electric power steering system are built, the dynamic characteristic of steering handing of electric power steering system is analyzed, the control strategy of electric power steering system is presented, this built up the theories foundation for the further study.
