Traffic problem is becoming increasingly prominent and has become a bottleneck restricting urban development. Urgent need to find a quick and convenient transport to ease the pressure on urban traffic, and the metro with a number of advantages such as high speed, punctually, less pollution, safety, comfort and so on becomes more and more popular. However, "security" is the eternal theme of rail transportation. Coupled with relatively closed environment, high traffic and other factors of the metro, it is difficult to evacuate passengers in traffic accidents. So the safety and reliability of vehicle operation has been the focus of public attention. To this end, the paper will have an in-depth structural performance simulation study on the stainless steel metro carbody.Firstly the paper has a briefly describes about metro carbody history and current status of domestic and foreign. Analysis and comparison of several common metro carbody, then find a carbody which is suit for our urban rail transit—the stainless steel carbody. The FEM model of the carbody is established in full knowledge of its main technical parameters, using environment and mechanical characteristics. Among which, how to effectively simulate the typical connection of the solder join is the key step of the simulation. The stress and deformation of the carbody is acquired in the provisions condition. Then, the stress and deformation distribution of the carbody and its key positions are analyzed and evaluated. Simulation results show that:the stress of the stainless steel carbody distributes in a reasonable way, and the carbody stiffness also meets the standard requirements which demonstrate the design is reasonable. Comparing the simulation results with the carbody static strength test data, the result shows that the two are consistent with each other, which proves the correctness of the FEM model of the carbody especially the simulation of solder join and provides a reference for further optimization of the carbody structure. On this basis, the structure of the side wall is improved from the perspective of modular production and easy of manufacturing, and gives a more reasonable design scheme after the comprehensive consideration of various factors. This can provide a theoretical basis for future body design, improvement or maintenance.
