The tailings dam is a special kind of industrial buildings. It is also the greatest potential danger of mine. The quality of its operations would not only affect the economic benefits of a mining enterprise, but would also be essential for the lives and property of downstream residents of the reservoir area and the surrounding environment. As a result of the differences in some aspects of fine tailings, such as particle composition, physical properties, etc., the stability of tailings dam would always be worse than the ordinary dam. It is not unusual in the mines at home and abroad that tailings dam has caused very serious harm and damage due to the loss of the stability. Therefore, it has been much attention around the world that how to study and improve the safety and stability of tailings dams and to extend its serviceable life.By the geotechnical test and numerical simulation method, this thesis makes a series of analysis and research of the stability of Jingyugou tailings dam in Anshan Steel Company and gives some strategies to ensure the safe operation of the tailings dam. Major work and results achieved are as followed:1. Based on the tailings dam accidents at home and abroad in recent years, losing stability is one of the main kinds of those accidents.2. The data were obtained from the mechanical parameters of tailings through the geotechnical test. And these data can be used as the basic data for analysis and prediction of the stability of the tailings dam.3. Based on numerical analysis of the Jingyugou tailings dam, the stability of the tailings dam has been analyzed under different conditions and the safety of operation of tailings dam has been predicted in the future.
