SF6 has become a major dielectric in the power system. Due to its excellent electrical insulation and arcing ability, SF6 has been widely used in primary equipment such as the breaker and the current transformer. But the traditional monitoring system does not reflect the instant message of SF6 gas leakage accurately, which would cause SF6 gas leak in the operation. It will not only produce poisonous and corrosive gas, damage the insulators, endanger running safety and harm to human health, but also increase the greenhouse gas in the environment. So it is significant for operation security of the power equipments to detect SF6 gas leakage.This paper focuses on new methods of SF6 gas leakage detection in the circuit breaker, it designs and builds the photoacoustic spectroscopy testing system which is used for detecting the SF6 gas leakage by useing photoacoustic spectroscopy principle. Meanwhile in order to solve the problems of laser power instability, this paper has adopted the comparative measurements. The system mainly contains host, sampling control unit, zoom processing circuit and measuring module, etc. The main aim is to judge whether the breaker leaks or not by testing the SF6 gas concentration, and to determine whether SF6 gas meets the safety standards of the maintenance staff into the gas chamber for repairing. Finally, the experiments show that the system can analyze SF6 gas concentration accurately and reliably, and the system has extremely obvious technological advantages and extensive application value.
