Heavy-duty vehicles play an irreplaceable role in the national economy and defense construction. However, due to the special operating environment and complex road condition, combined with long body length and large mass, leading to its large low-speed turning radius steering and relatively poor flexibility, tire wear is also serious. This directly affects handling stability, economy and tire life of the vehicles. So the application of multi-axle steering technology on heavy vehicles can improve the steering performance of multi-axle vehicles effectively. In recent years research on multi-axle steering technology has been actively carried out both at home and abroad.Because multi-axle steering technology is partly related to the military industrial technology areas, leading countries strictly control the communication about multi-axle steering technology with us. So far, domestic literatures on systematically research of multi-axis steering technology is still very little, the theory of multi-axle steering technology is still in an immature stage and focused on the optimization design of steering systems only. Serious tire wear when multi-axle vehicle is moving or turning and the maneuverability should be further enhanced become the main problems of multi-axle steering technological development.Taking a 5-axle heavy vehicles as the research object, this dissertation detailedly research on the relationship of multi-axle vehicle steering wheel angle, the instantaneous center position and the calculation of turning resistance torque; it also deeply analyses The mechanism of tyres wear and analyzed the tire wear, combined the process of steering multiaxial cars were analyzed. Also establishes the vehicle system mechanical dynamics equation include vehicle movement, the sprung mass movement, wheel motion and tires, which provides the theory basis for building simulation model.Simulink is a visualization simulation tools based on Matlab platform. With its powerful simulation computation function, set the simulation model according to vehicle system dynamics equation. The model includes vehicle movement model, the sprung mass movement model, wheel movement model, tire mechanical model and some auxiliary calculation model. Through the comparison of simulation data, analyzing the steering characteristics of multi-axle vehicle steering and verify the accuracy and suitability of the models.The multi-axle vehicle dynamic formula and model mentioned in the text can well express mechanical characteristics of the vehicle. They can help further research on multi-axle vehicle.
