This article bases on the foregone data and literature, summarized the main feature of the strip mine's dump , the major effect factor of slope stability of pump and the slope landslide pattern. Latter analyzed and compared the theory of four Limit equilibrium method that the most often application method in slope stability of dump estimate and the finite element strength reduction method , summarized the respective merit and the insufficiency of the method. Separately takes the stability analyses tool Slide5.0 and the plaxis software, combined two predigest example and the west dump slope stability analysis example of zungar strip mine, discussed and compared two method's difference which existed in the analysis . Finally indicated in the Limit equilibrium method, Fellenius method leans to safe, precision of the Janbu method was insufficient, the bishop and the Morgenstein―Price method are suiTab for a strip mine dump stability estimate. The finite element strength reduction method holds the superiority in the visualization aspect, the stress strain analysis and the ground material elastoplasticity model. When the dump's structure is simple, the traditional limit equilibrium method satisfies the computation request, but when the dump is situated in the weak basis or has the weak layer, the result united the finite element method and the limit equilibrium method is more reliable.
