Along with the west development strategy and the implementation of EHV transmission project started, big span, long-distance transmission lines will work on various environmental conditions. As the composite insulators are widely used for transmission lines, composite insulators in various environmental conditions of ageing and flash heal for regularly study is urgent. Silicone composite insulator has hydrophobic and detest water transference, the antioxidant pollution flashover ability, and has the population-particularly zero, auto cleaning, light weight, convenient transportation installation, and many other advantages. Since in the 1990s, the composite insulators in power system have been widely applied, the discovery of the transmission lines to prevent pollution flashover is an accident. At present, the grid running on existing is more than 300 million and the longest running is already nearly 20 years. Different manufacturer, different operation fixed number of year, different craft production of composite insulators and different environment in the operation reliability is a worrying problem. How to monitoring and evaluating the overall performance of composite insulators and how to correctly use composite insulator, is an urgent problem for the electric power operation department to solve.
