Based on the past work and the existing problems,this paper took a research on the bearing capacity of laterally loaded single long pile.In this paper,approximate solutions were discussed when the lateral load was large and displacement of pile was large resulting a yielding of soil in front of the pile.This method is a supplement and amendment of past work without considering the yielding of soil.The main work as follows shows:1.Briefly introduced the definition,classification,mechanical characteristics,failure modes and application of laterally loaded piles,.and discussed the current situation.2.This paper proposed a applicable method of laterally loaded long piles for cohesionless soil.lt takes into account the nonlinearity and yielding of soil in front of soil. Nonlinear differential equations of the fourth order were were derived for both states and to solve the equations, the Gleser finite difference approach combined with iteration and the Reese-Matlock approach were developed separately.Calculation results were verified by a field test and a numerical solution separately.3.For foundation of cohesive soil,by discussing the existing foundation model and calculation methods,considering that Zhang You Ling Method was more applicable when soil was elastic.The paper also took into accout the yielding of soil and corrected Zhang You Ling Method when the yielding of soil happened. The calculation results agree well with the field test results.4.Discussed the mechanical characteristic of laterally loaded long piles by the finite element software PLAXIS.First,verified the reasonbility of method of Chapter 3 by a numerical example which also proved the accuracy of the finite element modeling.Then,ananlysised the changing of pile parameters to the influence of pile in homogeneous foundation.Finally,analysised the changing of soil parameters to the influence of pile. To consider the yielding of soil, the given lateral load was large during the analysis process.
