With the rapid development of our country's electric power grid, electrical running of the electric power is always the concerning question of the electric company. The reactive power optimization is one of the important measure, which could reduce the power loss and improve the voltage quality effectively.With the development of Zhejiang Province's electric Power and the improvement of the dispatching automation, a coordinated system of AVC is promoted by Zhejiang Power Grid Corporation. This paper mainly introduce the AVC system upgrade according to the provincial requirements and the current system. To strengthen the reactive power optimization function of regional network, to research the multi-level cooperation function, to transfer the operation center function and remote control function to urban monitoring center, and to research the county AVC system's coordinate control function, what is this paper mainly introduces.The power system reactive power optimization problem belongs to the problems of OPF, which is a dynamic, multi-objective, multi-constraint, uncertainty, non-linear mixed programming problem, and the problem is involving the choice of location of reactive power compensation, reactive power compensation capacity determination, the regulation of transformer tap and generator terminal voltage and so on.This paper mainly studies the reactive power optimization reactive power in order to net loss minimization. That is the optimal reactive power output in the power plant and the optimal reactive power load in the substation, and to minimize line losses, the need to line current as small as possible.It should be avoided in the line reactive power flow under ideal circumstances.It means that each site achieved a local balance of reactive power. Therefore, to achieve the balance of reactive power locally is the basic principle of AVC to run.
