With the improvement of our national economic and development of industrial technology, the scale of national power network is becoming larger and larger, and the power quality problems have a bad influence on our life and work, so our country and many power companies'requirement of power quality is increasing rapidly and power quality problems have already become focus of attention the power sectors and users. Therefore, the relevant departments of national electrical power system need to focus on enhancing and improving power quality. However, the research of power quality detection, establishment of power quality monitoring platform, in another words, as long as power quality monitoring and analysis is being running effectively, the electrical power system department would guarantee to provide inexpensive, safe, stable, reliable power for normal people and factories. Through the power quality monitoring result and reports, the electrical power system department not only can find power system faults immediately, but also can make immediate response to avoid power accidents.This article analyzes and contrasts current development status of power quality from abroad to home. According to our country power quality standards, it can divide into steady-state and transient-state power quality problems, and we study and discuss its concept, causes and solutions. In the terms of steady-state power quality, we discuss voltage and current frequency, voltage deviation, harmonic and unbalance in three-phase; in the terms of transient-state power quality, we discuss voltage swells and voltage sags, voltage fluctuation and flicker, transient oscillation. On this basis, this article proposes using virtual instrument technology on the power quality monitoring, and using virtual instrument engineering software NI-LabVIEW platform with FLUKE 6100A power standard source to simulate series of power quality problems and classical algorithms, eventually we research and develop a power quality monitoring and analysis platform.Finally, we use FLUKE power standard source to generate various actual disturbance signals, tests the functionality, output of power quality monitoring platform, and test results proves accuracy of its each function. The power quality monitoring system, which is developed based on virtual instrument, has the feature of friendly interface, simple operation, accurate calculation and low cost and so on. From this project, we hope virtual instrument technology can be applied to other relevant fields.
