Widespread using of power electronic devices leads to serious harmonic pollution in the public electricity line, which has caused a lot of useless power consumption. Solving harmonic pollution has become an increasing national attention. Power Factor Correction (PFC) technology is an effective way to improve the power factor of electronic devices and reduce the harmonic pollution, it can almost imprive the power factor up to 0.99, so it is widely used in various power electronics devices. This paper designs a power active power factor correction (APFC) controller, named XD7028 for lighting devices and other small power devices. The chip operates in critical conduction mode by using voltage-mode control. Because there's no multiplier, it's structure is simple and the power consumption is low. It has a dual-output function, which automatically adjusts the output voltage according to line voltage.Because of the different line voltage in different countries, so it can be used more widely. In the XD7028's designing process, a low power consumption, fast response ability drive circuit by analysising and improving the conventional CMOS driver circuit is designed, at the same time it can reduce the layout area. Peripheral circuit is a Boost converter, each peripheral device parameters is designed and caculated in this paper. At last, an EMI filter is presented. Baseed on the 0.35μBCD process model, each module of the chip and the whole chip is simulated by Hspice/Cadence software. Simulation results show that the chip meets the design requirements of the target and has good control performance of power factor correction.
