The core problem of improving the self-innovation capability and R&D level in China's auto industry is how to research and develop the new technology and method in whole commercial vehicle's structure conceptual design. The process of full structural design is intrinsically an optimital process of the whole vehicle and parts to achieve some economic and performance indexes. Meanwhile, it's a iterative process.Since 1990s, many domestic and foreign scholars have strenghened the research of topological optimization method and technology, and have acquired various research results. They have realized that the topological optimization is effective to structure conceptual design. Therefore, they expect to use topological optimization instead of traditional structure design in design process of the whole vehicle and parts. There are there structural optimization methods in heavy commercial vehicle research:topological optimization, shape optimization and parametric optimization. They are all successfully applied to whole vehicle's performance optimization and parts'lighten optimization and structural optimization, and the effects are significant. The paper analyzes the static characteristics of the frame in torsional case and bending case, based on the theory of proposed static topological optimization. We present the optimum scheme considering with practical situation. The finite element model of the whole vehicle is established by use of Hypermesh module of the Hyperworks software. We use Radioss module to analyze the FE model. This paper proposes the new static topological optimization to light the frame without change stiffness. We calculate the sensitivity parameter of each part of the frame according to their static stiffness sensitivities, and elect the designed parts. Based on the data of sensitivity parameters and practical situation, the new design programs are put away. The static analysis of the frame in the whole vehicle situation is studied and compared with the original frame. The result validate the proposed topological optimization theory is effective and practical.
