With the increase in traffic volume and the increase in heavy vehicles, the bearing capacity of the early asphalt concrete pavement is increasingly inadequate, under the impact of the temperature changing and water, the pavement structure is prone to rutting, cracking, and etc, the pavement performance is weaken.In order to meet the needs of traffic, it is necessary to take an expansion of the original road and to use the latest technology, to improve the current situation of the pavement structure.In this paper, for the three pavement schemes of Guangzhou to Lechang Expressway expansion project, the problems of expressway widening project occurring later and the current conditions of the original asphalt concrete pavement as well as economic feasibility are analyzed, and finally select the economy and reasonable scheme.First, through the analysis of traffic and terrain, the integral splicing scheme is determined, and then analyze the principle of passive anchor, the principle of similar cohesion and tension membrane theory, combining with the actual situation confirm the effect of geogrids, and prove that setting geogrids in the widening sections is necessary.Second, from the phenomenon of the ordinary asphalt pavement damage transition to the analysis of the microstructure of asphalt mixture, clarify the reasons of the ordinary asphalt pavement damage, then analyze the composition of the SMA mixture and pavement performance from the Technical, economic and other views compared with general asphalt mixture, establish the reasonableness of its use.Finally, analyze the function of continuously reinforced concrete slab as the base of pavement, and compare it with SMA pavement overlay directly in terms of economy, transportation organization and environmental aspect, proof that directly overlay SMA Road is preferable.Through the way of integrating theory with practice, the three pavement structure schemes are analyzed comparatively from the technical, economic and other aspects, and finally choose the direct overlay SMA pavement scheme; this will have a certain reference on the road expansion project in the future.
