With the rapid development of wind power generation technology and continuously increasing in the proportion of wind power to the total power supply, the impact of wind power on power system can not be ignored. Wind turbine is different from conventional generator set, and the output power of wind farms is also different from that of conventional power resources, which determine that its impacts on the grid are many-sided. Starting from both aspects of the wind turbine and wind farm output power, this article researched and analyzed the impact of grid connected wind farms to power system transient stability and peaking capability. To analysis the impact of grid connected wind farms on power system transient stability, the various components of the dynamic models of double-fed wind turbine and permanent magnet direct drive wind turbine are analyzed and described first, then power system transient stability is overviewed. On this basis, the impact of grid connected wind farms on power system transient voltage stability and transient frequency stability are analyzed in detail. Main influencing factors are found out, and improvement measures aiming at the influences of the factors are put forward, then the effectiveness of the measures is verified with a case study of an actual power grid by means of time domain simulation. To analyze the impact of grid connected wind farms on power system peaking capacity, the method to analyze wind power is presented first, and wind power seasonal characteristics as well as the relationship between wind power and grid load are researched with the historical data of an actual power as an analysis object, then the counter-peaking characteristics of wind power output is analyzed. Analyzing method of power system peaking load capacity with grid connected wind farms is presented, the power system peaking load capacity for eliminating wind power fluctuations using both conventional peaking measures and depth peaking measures is analyzed with practical examples. Aiming at the economic costs and security risks of the depth peaking measures, optimal analyzing measures are advanced, and optimal dispatching strategy is put forward, then the significance of the optimal analyzing measures to actual power system dispatching operation is verified by calculating-example analysis.
