| As two big system of world garden, Chinese and Western traditional gardens both have remarkable artistic achievement. Water, as basic element, plays an important role in landscape architecture. The design of waterscape always be paid much attention by gardeners. The systematic study on the design of waterscape in Chinese traditional natural gardens and Western traditional regular gardens will enlighten the road of sustainable development of classical Chinese water system."Researching on new needs studying traditional, no new exists without traditional succession."The paper makes "the design method of waterscape" as the subject. On the basis of previous works, It collected and studied the waterscape system in Chinese traditional natural gardens and Western traditional regular gardens systematically and summarized their feature with existing case. Further, It compared the differences and analyze the reason. The valuable conclusion of the paper as follows:(1) Through the way that combine the literature and case, the emergence and development of traditional waterscape system in garden between Chinese and Western are illustrated systematically in this thesis.(2) Based on the features of Chinese and Western, the traditional waterscape system in garden between Chinese and Western are compared and analyzed crosswise, and the differences of them are derived. Meanwhile, the reasons of these differences are analyzed through the Natural environment, mode of thinking and cultural structure.(3) The opinion which assert "basing on the tradition, and recreating" is proposed. On the one hand, we should explore the modern thought and tactics that are extracted from waterscape system in Chinese traditional natural gardens to highlight the traditional Chinese ethnic characteristics. On the other hand, we should learn the Western Scientific theory and method to complete and develope the architecture of waterscape in Chinese traditional natural gardens.
